2022 Canadian Racquetball Championships

Alberta athletes bring home medals from the 2022 National Championships!

Last week, athletes from all over Canada competed at the 2022 National Championships in Brossard. This event also included the Junior National Championships with new rule changes to include a 21&U division for the juniors.


THE RESULTS

Coby Iwaasa placed second in the Men’s Open division against Sam Murray from Quebec with final scores of 15-9, 15-8, 15-8.

Iwaasa also placed second in the Men’s Open doubles with partner Kurtis Cullen (MB) against Sam Murray and his brother Tommy Murray (QB). With the new scoring system, the match went 4 games with Iwaasa and Cullen winning the first 15-13 and losing the next three 15-14, 15-6 & 15-8.

Over in the Women’s Open division, Alexis Iwaasa placed fifth in singles and second in doubles with her partner Danielle Drury (SK). They lost in pool play to Frédérique Lambert (QC) & Michèle Morissette (QC) 15-8, 15-11, 13-5, 15-8.

JUNIOR RESULTS
Naman Gauri placed third in the Boy 18&U losing a tough five game match in pool play against Christian Pocsai (ON) with final scores of 6-15, 15-7, 6-15, 15-3 & 11-4.

In the Girl’s 14&U, Lahni Buller won gold over Halen Pocsai (ON) with final scores of 15-1, 15-5 &15-2.

We were so excited that Racquetball Canada welcomed back Timothy Baghurst joined this year by Jeffrey Thompson (JT Rball) to livestream the action from the championships! They even had ARA President, Mitch Brayley, join them for some commentating throughout the week!
