Buller, Iwaasa take top titles at 2017 Alberta Provincial Racquetball Championships

Grande Prairie's Jeff Buller and Lethbridge's Alexis Iwaasa finished the provincial season on top of the podium, winning the Men's and Women's Open divisions at the 2017 Alberta Provincial Racquetball Championships this past weekend at the Glen Allan Recreation Complex in Sherwood Park. The tournament, which saw 66 participants aged 11 to 69 years old compete in 13 divisions, was the first Provincial Championship to be held in the Edmonton area since 2011.

Buller dominated his match from the first serve, defeating Edmonton's Devin Halko in two games (15-3, 15-6) to win his first provincial Open title. Iwaasa, who placed 3rd at the Junior World Championships in San Luis Potosí, Mexico this past fall, defended her Provincial Title against opponent Erin Geeraert of Calgary. After losing the first game to Iwaasa 11-15, Geeraert almost took the second when she tied it up at 16-16. Iwaasa was able to hold on however, winning the game 18-16 and taking home the match and title.

• Girl's 18 & Under: Alexis Iwaasa (Lethbridge)

• Boy's 16 & Under: Brisan Green (Sherwood Park)

• Girl's 16 & Under: Nyah Yaretz (Calgary)

• Boy's 14 & Under: Naman Gauri (Lethbridge)

• Boy's 12 & Under: Jordan Miller (Edmonton)

• Junior 2 Bounce: Erich Augustin (Edmonton)
